Whoa! There has been way too much fun happening while my news server was
unplugged.
But why stop there with such a short list? Why not also have the
following stop posting:
1) anyone supporting, responding to, arguing with, or otherwise
continuing the "apollo hoax" thread - get a grip people, we really did
land there - the TV show played during "Sweeps" week the real hoax is on
advertisers
2) any posting from El Grande Chupacabras (who is just plain mean)
3) any posting between tholen and El Grande Goat-Sucker (see #2)
4) any posting on the SETI project, I mean, get a grip people, any
intelligent species and lots of less-than-inteligent species (like us)
are not gonna build a goddam intergalactic radio transmitter, not when
there are tons of better ways to piss away enormous sums of money.
(Although there might be other intelligent species that, like us, *just*
*listen* - I'm envisioning two gossips on either side of a thin wall,
each with their drinking glasses pressed to their ears).
5) postings describing how NASA intends to delay the impact of global
warming by slingshoting asteroids past Earth (I wanna see THAT
environmental impact statement), I mean really, NASA, this was released
and it wasn't even April 1
6) anything on astrology, after all, everyone knows astrology isn't a
science, besides they have their own news groups
7) any advertising SPAM, in fact SPAM should be a capital crime with no
possibility of appeal and guaranteed conviction
8) anyone who cannot seem to muster the effort to press the "spelling"
icon on their news reader before posting (I mean, heck, you don't have
to actually KNOW how to spell, the machine can do it for you)
9) any posting that has not been peer reviewed by well recognized
experts in astronomy
10) any posting that is controversial or challenges currently accepted
cosmology
Heck, why stop there. Why not just go around the world and modify any
notion of "freedom of speech" to be "freedom of *intelligent* speech".
We chould set up a world-wide committee of experts to define what is
intelligent (and likewise, what is lacking in intelligent and therefor
subject to sanction). I mean, democracy and freedom is just *so* messy,
all that uncontrolled information out there. The benefits of this
change would be that you no longer would have to look at the Weekly
World News at the supermarket check-out line. Elvis in his space ship
on the White House lawn! Sheesh!
Of course, the alternative is to just ignore or killfile anything that
bores you, but that is, of course, too obvious.
