As I reported in November, Jurian had indicated the server needed to have a complete software reload because of an outside hack that he was able to avert.
Jurian prefers the Debian Linux Ver. 3, which was available to download for free from their website. This was a 2 CD download, and even with a friends fast
cable internet connection, each CD took 4 hours to download! I then burned each one to blank CDs for future use by the nonprofit. Now Jurian and I will
have to do the software install, when he and I can set a time to work together on IRC. Logistically this is a bit complicated, as he as Approximately 11 hours
ahead of me, and I will have to again impose on my friend to use his monitor and keyboard to hook to the server, as well as link up to IRC at his home to talk
with Jurian.
I have also been disappointed in my search for a collocation company here on the island. All of the companies have moved their hardware to another island
(Oahu) except one, and I cannot get the owner of the company to return my calls or email. So, now I am looking at alternative ways to link the server, such as
a T1 line, or cable modem access. The latter is readily available, the former a bit more involved. As I receive more info from my research, I will inform the
board. At least we should have the software loaded, and the server given a clean bill of health from Jurian by the next meeting!
