Subject: Worm Bed - Progress Report Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 12:26:58 -0600 From: Nancy Lieder <zetatalk@zetatalk.com> To: tt-inc@egroups.com A top priority of the Board last April was Worm Bed prototypes. Funds were approved, but Ron was spread so thin that he only had time to test the concept of housing worms in a pail (they prefer cool, and need to be kept moist). With the infrastructure on the headquarters site (my home) completed, all new plumbing and electric, with enough power to handle hydroponics and aquaponics, it was time to build and utilizing the worm beds. Ron spent some hours and much thought designing worm beds that could be maintained and harvested easily. Still photos will be available soon enough, so I will simply say that they are a series of trays, small enough to be handled, stacked, with drainage to catch the liquid fertilizer. Roger traveled from Kansas to help in the kickoff of construction, which entailed removing the seats from my van and several trips to the lumber yard to haul the supplies home. The cost exceded the $250 allocated, and Ron personally purchased a table saw and the like. Issues to be addressed at the next Board Meeting. Many thanks to Roger for his long hours after a long drive, a gift of time noted on the Worm Beds web page.
